A production of Wallace's Women was put on in Lanark in autumn 1997
and also in Stirling, thanks to Elspbeth King, curator of a museum
there with a performance space.
This performance was seen by a professional theatre director, Charles
Nowosielski, and he offered to stage it at the following year's
Edinburgh Festival if we agreed to make sweeping changes (and improvements)
to the structure and text.
Wallace's Women ran for four very successful weeks at the Church
of Scotland's arts centre in Edinburgh, the Netherbow ( at John
Knox House,
43-45 High St) in August and September 1998.
My next major commission arose directly as a result of 'Wallace's
Women'.
