Gary Tait (RSPB) has made four follow-up visits to Crookedstane and reports sighting a nightjar on every occasion; on one of these feeding on the wing; that a long-eared owl has nested in the forest and produced three fledglings; that he sighted three blackcocks ‘lecking’ (performing their ritual mating dance) on a ride. Plans are now under discussion to run bird-watching holidays up there.
